What do Coast Guards do for maritime security in the EU waters? In this episode of Ocean, we'll follow the COASTEX-22 joint exercise in Croatia, where vessels, helicopters, airplanes and a number of observers from European Coast Guard authorities test various coast guard functions. We'll get close to the action, showing how national and European agencies (EMSA, EFCA and Frontex) work together when searching and rescuing people at sea, responding to oil spills and other environmental pollution, and fighting against illegal fishing and other threats in Europe's waters. To find out more about European contribution to maritime security, we'll visit the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) Maritime Support Services centre in Lisbon that coordinates the assistance in the event of an accident at sea, whether pollution or safety related.
