The objective of this exercise was to train the various State actors, public and private partners to coordinate their actions during a complex crisis. In particular, to integrate into crisis management the problems and constraints of the land-sea interface when accommodating a ship in difficulty in a port of refuge and during an operation to combat maritime pollution by oil at sea and on the coast.

On 24 and 25 May 2016, as part of the orsec maritime system, the Maritime Prefecture of the Atlantic organised a major exercise in assistance to ships in difficulty (ANED) and fight against maritime oil pollution (POLMAR) in the Bay of Biscay and along the Atlantic coastline. This exercise, scheduled since September 2015, begun on May 24 after a fictitious collision between two commercial buildings at the opening of the Loire. A ship chartered for the exercise, was the subject of assistance at sea and was taken to the port of Saint-Nazaire at the end of the day.
